Multilingual China-related International Public Opinion Case Database Established in SISU

The launching ceremony of the “Multilingual China-related International Public Opinion Case Database” was held in Shanghai International Studies University on March 28, 2015.

Under the strategy of “One Belt and One Road” and “Internet Plus,” the database is the first China-related research system focused on international public opinion. Relying on an information technology platform, it will develop studies in eight major linguistic communities (Chinese, English, Russian, German, French, Japanese, Spanish and Arabic) from 1990 till now.

The database project will not only promote the theoretical development in the study of China-related international public opinion, but also provide a scientific basis to manage several kinds of media events for optimizing the decision-making system of government departments and even for enhancing the international discourse rights of China.

Jiang Feng, the general secretary of SISU, indicates that the project will contribute to getting more accurate understanding of the international public opinion of China, sharing the Chinese philosophy to the world and avoiding the misunderstanding from other countries.

The chief expert of the project, Professor Guo Ke, said that the database will help to to accelerate the upgrade of international research dissemination by taking advantage of domestic relative quality Internet power.

“The ultimate goal is to achieve an improvement of efficiency, an innovation in research institution and the social value-added services of this research platform under the “Internet Plus” idea model,” Guo said. “With the strong support of information technology platform, SISU will obtain a major breakthrough in the international media and international public opinion research.”

The database project received a National Social Science Fund of 800,000 RMB in November 2014. The construction of this project integrates other academic strength, for example the Foreign Language Bureau, Xinhua News Agency and other national research institutions, Fudan University, Zhejiang University and other colleges and universities.
